Flickr.com Now Allows Video Uploads
9 April 2008 | Articles, Digital Camera, Female | No Responses
Yes it’s finnaly true, flickr is allowing video uploads but there’s a catch, you’ll need to be a PRO member (costs around $25 per year) and the limit of playing time for a video is 90 seconds.
This means Flickr isn’t directly competing with YouTube but instead it says 90 seconds is quite enough as the aim is to allow Photographers to upload “long photos” .
What is video on Flickr?
Video on Flickr is going to be defined by our incredible, diverse, far-flung and fabulously talented members. Some answers that we’ve come up with:
1. A long photo
2. Personal
3. Simple – not overproduced or slick
4. Possibly the best answer so far: The Great Unknown
Some ground rules to get started:
1. Only “safe” and “moderate” video content is permitted. Your “beautiful wife” should not be moving. (Read more about content filters.)
2. Only upload videos you have created yourself.
If you go against either of these rules, we’ll send you a warning and the content will be removed.
What are the functions of the video player on Flickr?
The player controls and indicators are:
1. Play
2. Pause
3. The progress bar shows the caching of the video stream. You can also click and drag to rewind or skip ahead
4. Volume
5. Expand to Full Size
6. At Full Size, Collapse to previous size/context
Know Your Rights as a Photographer
18 March 2008 | Uncategorized, Photography, Articles | No Responses
Photojojo.com has posted a very interesting and timely article that is a must read for aspiring photographers.
The title of the article is “Photography and The Law: Know Your Rights”.
An excerpt:
The Ten Legal Commandments of Photography
I. Anyone in a public place can take pictures of anything they want. Public places include parks, sidewalks, malls, etc. Malls? Yeah. Even though it’s technically private property, being open to the public makes it public space.
II. If you are on public property, you can take pictures of private property. If a building, for example, is visible from the sidewalk, it’s fair game.
III. If you are on private property and are asked not to take pictures, you are obligated to honor that request. This includes posted signs.

Flickr.com is a great place to host your photos but there might come a time when you would want to be in total control of how your pics are displayed, create a photo gallery with a blog functionality, etc.One of the most important aspect to consider when your deciding to create your own site is Web Hosting.
Once you choose your web hosting provider, many people will not change companies if they are unhappy. Instead, they will just complain about the bad service and unreliable hosting. They figure it will be too much of a burden to change web hosts. This being said, it is increasingly important to choose a good reliable web hosting provider to begin with.
Some of the features you should look for in a web host are the amount of disk space & bandwitdh offered, email accounts, uptime guarantee, support, control panel, testimonials and last but not least - price.

Edit your Photos on Flickr thanks to the Flickr & Picnik Partnership
5 December 2007 | Uncategorized, Articles, Digital Camera, Flickr | No Responses

Now, this is great news for those who wish to edit their pics online and in their favourite site (flickr.com).
Flickr just announced that they are in collaboration with Picnik which will now allow you and me to edit our pics right in Flickr.
An excerpt from the official announcement:
Picnik has been providing online photo editing for a while now. As soon as we saw it, we knew that there was huge potential for us to join together. Rather than Flickr diverting from our speciality to enter a realm we had no (particular) expertise in, the thought of a partnership seemed much more sensible.
The Picnik/Flickr collaboration works similarly to other 3rd party services who’ve built additional tools on top of the Flickr API: You’ll need to pass through the step of giving the Picnik service permission to edit and save your photos… It’s a little bit like you’re “installing” Picnik on your Flickr account, but with nothing to download.

Choosing the Right Pixel for your Digital Camera
22 September 2007 | Uncategorized, Articles, Digital Camera | 1 Response
If you are buying a digital camera for the first time and are confused about the right megapixel size, here is all the information you need! The article gives you an understanding of what a pixel is and how the number of pixels in a digital camera determines the maximum print size you can make while retaining the picture quality.
What is a Megapixel (MP)?
Digital images are made up of thousands of tiny, tile-like picture elements called pixel. One million pixels make up one megapixel (abbreviated as MP). A megapixel is a popular unit of measurement in an image.
The number of megapixels in a digital camera determines how big the picture can be and still print out a photo quality picture. The higher the megapixel, the larger photo quality picture you can get. But, higher megapixel also means higher costs, so watch out your budget before you think what pixel count is right for you!!

The Magic of The Professional Digital Camera
1 August 2007 | Uncategorized, Photography, Articles, Digital Camera | No Responses
In the world of digital professional photography, taking pictures is not as simple as clicking that shutter button. Though digital imaging has made it easier and affordable for photographers, the quality of the pictures would still be questioned. A lot of factors have to be taken into consideration if you want to be successful at professional photography. Light, composition and background affect pictures. The professional photographer knows this so he or she often ends up chasing light to achieve that perfect photo.
A normal digital camera is not enough in this endeavor. A photographer needs to be armed with a professional digital camera to get all the details. It produces the best image quality and has the capacity to operate even when exposed to low light. It has complicated settings that a novice would not understand at first glance. Photographers often learn through trial and error. This is why a professional digital camera comes in handy because it eliminates the need for films that are expensive to print. And when you go by trial and error, you would make a lot of mistakes along the way. With a professional digital camera, you would be able to check the result immediately without printing the picture. You would also be able to capture extremely small subjects even if it’s too far away because of its zoom capacity. The high-end professional digital cameras allow this and you would be able to get every last detail. Fast-moving subjects are also not a problem with a professional digital camera. It has special controls that let you capture the subject. For example, you are at a basketball game. You can’t exactly order the players to stand still while you take a picture.
